The newborn's navel can often cause foul-smelling white pus. This condition is called navel infection or umbilical sepsis. Infection of the navel causes redness around the navel and continuous discharge from the navel.

This is caused by a type of bacterial infection called Staphylococcus. This can be confirmed by examining the routine and culture of umbilical discharge.

Many times it can travel from the navel to the liver and spread throughout the body and blood. Then jaundice, liver boils and other terrible conditions can arise. This condition is called umbilical sepsis. Sometimes the infection can spread to bones or other organs. It is a complex and terrible health problem of the newborn. Therefore, the child should be taken to the doctor or the nearest health center immediately after the suspicion. It is possible to prevent this disease by taking care of the navel immediately after birth and keeping it clean. Arranging for the birth of the baby in a clean environment, taking care that the baby's feces and urine do not get into the navel, keeping the place of the navel dry - if these precautions are taken, there is no risk of infection in the navel. If the disease occurs, the disease gets better if the treatment is taken according to the advice of the pediatrician. If the disease is mild, the umbilical cord should be cleaned gently with betadine. In this case, it is better not to use spirit. Antibiotic powder is to be applied as per the advice. If necessary, antibiotic drops or injections should be given according to the doctor's advice. Grass juice, turmeric or any kind of totka medicine should not be used for navel wounds. This is not only for the welfare of the child, but can bring terrible danger.
