What is kala-azar?
Hello friends how are you all I hope you are well so I will discuss with you today about black fever.
What is black fever?
Black fever (visceral leishmaniasis) is a slow-growing, highly contagious chronic disease characterized by recurrent and irregular fever, significant weight loss, swelling of the liver and spleen, and anemia. It is spread by the bite of the female sand-fly (phlebotomine).
What are the main signs and symptoms?
Different types of leishmaniasis can occur depending on which organ is affected. The most common are skin and visceral or intestinal (attacking the liver and spleen). Signs and symptoms of black fever include:
Decreased appetite.
Feeling pale and losing enough weight.
Weakness.
Fever.
Skin - Dry, thin and scaly.
Anemia.
Splenomegaly - Enlargement of the spleen, usually soft and insensitive.
The liver is large, soft, smooth and has sharp edges.
What are the main reasons?
Black fever is a disorder that is spread by vector-infected sand flies (female phlebotomus argentypes). Infected flies carry a parasite or parasite called Leishmania into the bloodstream which later causes the above mentioned symptoms.
How is it diagnosed and treated?
Black fever is diagnosed in two ways
Symptoms: The above mentioned symptoms are carefully diagnosed and monitored.
In the laboratory: Serological tests are performed to look for antibodies against the parasite or parasite in which bone marrow / spleen / lymph node or lymph node tissue samples are collected through biopsy or culture. It is considered as confirmed detection.
The patient is given anti-parasite drugs to destroy the parasite in the body. The first oral medication for black fever was multifocin. It is 95% effective in patients. The black fever vaccine has not yet been released, so caution is needed when traveling to endemic areas such as sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, southern Europe, and the Americas.
When you go to these endemic areas, all you need to take care of yourself is to wear full sleeve shirts and pants. Use insect repellent spray and do not go out in the evening and at night when sand flies are very active.
