One of the different cellular components of blood is lymphocytes, which are basically a type of white blood cell. Its main function is to prevent disease. Abnormal growth of these lymphocytes for various reasons leads to cancer called lymphoma. The organs that make up and grow lymphocytes include lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, etc. Lymph nodes are present in different parts of the body. Under normal circumstances, they are not understood. But if the size is large for any reason, it is understood. The lymph nodes are scattered in different parts of the body. However, its presence is more noticeable on both sides of the throat, on both sides of the lungs and inside the abdomen. Symptoms: Lymph nodes or any other lymphatic organs in any part of the body become abnormally large. The swollen lymph nodes are soft and painless like rubber. This is accompanied by chronic fever, weight loss and night sweats. Lymphoma fever is usually of an irregular type. That means it comes and goes again. Fever levels are sometimes very high, sometimes mild. Most of these symptoms coincide with tuberculosis which has to be confirmed through special tests. However, some germs such as Helicobacter pylori, Hepatitis C virus, AIDS, Exstein's bar virus, etc. have been proven to be the cause. Examination: The main examination of lymphoma is to cut the tissue from the affected lymph node and perform biopsy. X-ray, ultrasonogram, CT scan, bone marrow are examined to understand the stage of the disease. In addition to routine blood tests to understand the overall condition, some other tests are also done. Treatment of lymphoma: The main treatment for lymphoma is chemotherapy. Radiotherapy is also given depending on the staging and considering the size and location of the affected lymph nodes. Bone marrow transplants are needed if chemotherapy and radiotherapy are not good. If diagnosed at the right time, 80-90 percent of lymphoma can be cured. Lymphoma treatment is possible in Bangladesh. Treatment is comparatively less expensive. Most of the chemotherapy drugs are made in Bangladesh. Lymphoma bone marrow transplantation has also been successful in Bangladesh for several years.
